When I thought about creating a logo I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted, all I previously knew I wanted was my name as 'Ellie Dallimore' rather than my formal name Ellen. Morag explained about how a long name can make the logo too long horizontally so that put me in a different position. I then thought about a shape to put above, making it more square than before.

I wanted a sans serif font rather than serif or script, because I thought it would be more universal and easy to read. But making it thin and adding a shape would create more personality. I put together some fonts to see finalise the text.

I decided on the Roboto package including thin, light, book and bold. This would allow me to use the same font but change the style occasionally.

I then explored the idea of using a shape that would create my initials without looking too much like the name 'ED'. I created this is illustrator:

I tried fitting it into the website I had created at the time to see how it would fit with my font and the images on my page. Firstly, it looked a bit too thick and heavy, I needed to make the blocks thinner. I also wasn't sure about colours. I thought about looking into colour schemes. I found a website that showed an array of website colour schemes including the hex triplets that I could use. I selected the ones I liked:

I made a list of the hex triplets testing out the nude colours with the bolder colours. I created a few test logos:

I tested the logos again on the website to see how the colours worked with the text and the photographs. I thought the green worked best with the photographs that I have at the moment but the good thing about this logo is I can change the colour slightly if I need to, and it will still be recognisable as my logo.

With the type, the finished logo looks like this:

After getting opinions from some friends and family, I came to the conclusion that I needed to rethink my logo, it looks too much like links, or an 'S' shape. I tried adjusting the positions and thickness of the shapes and created this:

But I'm still not sure, it looks a little too business like. I am going to try and have a think about how I can make a new logo. I might make it a little more smooth and not blocky.
